How to Completely Relax in Your Hotel Room - Best Ways to Unwind in the Comfort of Your Hotel Suite

Regardless of the location of your hotel or the holiday destination, travellers can make the most of their time away from work within the confines of their hotel room. Although most tourists head out on holiday to relax by the beach or in an exotic location that's far removed from your resort base, it is possible to unwind even in the midst of a big city if one has a comfortable hotel room at one's disposal. Here are some tips on how to capitalise on your next hotel stay.

1. Indulge in a Hot Shower

Upon arriving at your hotel, the first way to make sure you feel as relaxed as possible is to enjoy a hot shower. Those who are staying at a hotel room that also includes a Jacuzzi or a hot tub can take it a step further and soak for an hour or more to really let your mind and body know the holiday period has begun in earnest. Pack some scented candles and relaxing ambient music to use and play inside the bathroom or by the bathtub so you can unwind all of your senses within the first couple of hours of arriving.

2. Remember that Work is Not on the Table

Taking the time to remember that you have no work concerns or other responsibilities to deal with is also necessary for those on holiday. Sit in the living area or balcony of your hotel room and soak up the atmosphere of the holiday destination and remind yourself that there are no pressing matters that require your attention and focus. Relish the fact that you deserve this break from the grind of everyday work and find relief in your surroundings.

3. Read a Good Book

There's nothing quite as relaxing as walking around in a dressing gown with a cup of tea and a good book in hand. Your hotel room can be your own private sanctuary where the focus can shift from your phone screen and computer to a thrilling novel or an engaging poetry collection. Give your mind a break by choosing a light read or a book with a lot of humour and take it with you wherever you happen to be in the room to resist the urge to switch on the TV or stare at a tablet/PC.

4. Bring Your Own Snacks and Beverages

Shop for your trip beforehand and pack some of your favourite and most decadent snacks and beverages so you need not rely on the minibar or the small packets of coffee provided by the hotel. From chocolates and biscuits to chips, frozen desserts, and fresh fruits, keep your hotel room stacked with snack options.

 5. Pack Comfy Clothes

Most travellers underestimate how much comfort will make a difference in their vacation experience and often prioritise holiday fashion over their own comfort. Make sure your luggage includes several bathrobes, flip flops and fuzzy slippers as well as sweats and other cosy clothing options to wear inside the hotel room even if your travel wardrobe includes some less than comfy options.

 6. Order Room Service

Whether you are based at Aliya Resort & Spa or any one of the other Dambulla hotels, explore the a la carte menu and order room service during the first day or two days of your stay. Not having to venture outside of your room to grab meals or to deal with other holidaymakers during meal times will set the right tone for your relaxing vacation. Wining and dining inside your hotel room will afford one the chance to detox from the outside world and enjoy scrumptious food at the same time.
