Planning on spending a few days in Sri Lanka during your next vacation?  Go Temple Hopping

Sri Lanka is multicultural and there are followers of quite a few different religions in the country. The majority of the population follow Buddhism; however, there are quite a few followers of religions such as Hinduism, Islam and Christianity. As a result, while you’re in the commercial capital of Colombo, you’re going to be able to have the chance to visit several religious venues that belong to one or more of these four religions. There are a few things to remember if you do plan to visit places of worship regarding attire. Firstly, most temples require visitors to wear relatively conservative clothing. For men, this means that if you have an option, choose pants and sandals or covered shoes rather than shorts and flip flops. For women, this mainly means wearing clothing that’s not too revealing. Especially when visiting mosques, remember to wear clothing that doesn’t show too much skin.

Take a Tour of the City

If you want to cover a lot of attractions in the city, consider signing up for a city tour. There’s also a double-decker bus service that takes tourists around on tours in the city – just climb to the deck, sit back and enjoy the wind in your hair as you sightsee. If you’d prefer to put together a custom sightseeing experience, check out local tour services such as Walkers Tours that do bespoke tours.

 Chill at a Café

One of the things to do in Colombo is chill at one of its many cafés. In recent years, the city has seen a large variety of cafés spring up. So whether you’re into a great cup of cold brew coffee or steaming hot matcha or even a cup of bubble tea bursting to the brim with tapioca pearls, there’s something for everyone. At these kinds of cafés, you can relax and catch your breath. Most of them are air-conditioned, have wi-fi for paying guests and serve a range of delicious treats to eat. In terms of food, it can range from snacks and desserts to a range of short-eats and international dishes such as lasagne and pasta. So, these cafés can be a great alternative to dining at a restaurant if you’re in the mood for a more relaxed atmosphere.

Hit the City after Dark

Once you’re done exploring the city during the day, head out on the town. There are a series of bars and nightclubs that you can go to depending on your preferences and budget.

Indulge in some Late Night Snacks

After a night out, when you’ve got the munchies at 2 am in the morning, one of the best things that you could eat to quell that post-midnight craving is kottu roti. You can’t experience Colombo fully without having some. It’s a popular dish that’s served at many of the small eateries in Colombo as well as more upscale restaurants. Many of these small eateries are the ones you want to keep an eye out for after a night out on the town as they tend to stay open late to feed hungry partiers. The dish is made of strips of roti that’s been tossed around with meat or seafood options as well as chopped vegetables. For those who like it decadent, there’s also usually the option of adding in some melted cheese in there.
