Sri Lankan Airlines offers direct flights to Sri Lanka, and it comes highly recommended. Food is alright, and if your destination is Sri Lanka, there are no long layovers. If you are travelling from the UAE, Emirates or Qatar Airways are the best choices. However, be prepared to spend a few hours in the UAE on a stopover.

7. Getting around

Getting around Sri Lanka is not difficult, but it's not without challenges. Public transport is highly unreliable, but for a tourist, travelling by bus or train can be a great experience – travelling by train from Colombo to Galle or the hill country offers amazing scenery. Taxis are the most comfortable way of travel; there are apps that allow you to book a vehicle from the comfort of your hotel room. Tuk-tuks are the most popular choice of transport. Plus, their rates are reasonable; but always make sure that the tuk-tuk has a functioning meter or negotiate the price before getting in.
