  • Mae Sai: This is Thailand's northernmost town. People go on day trips and stay in Mae Sai for the night before crossing the border into Myanmar.


  • Mae Salong: Officially known as Santikhiri, this village is known for the hills, tea plantations and valleys. Hiking, biking, and nature excursions are common activities in this region. The Wang Put Tan tea plantation is the most well-known, with a scenic view of the plantations and surrounding hills.

Songthaews

Another mode of public transport in Chiang Rai is Songthaews. It's a veiled pickup truck that is used as a taxi, similar to the jeepney in the Philippines. The least expensive fare is about THB 20 per person.

Walking

You can also stroll through the city centre. If you just would like to see the day or night markets, purchase some souvenirs, or go on a food walk/tour, this is a nice option.

Motorcycles or Bicycles
