How to think wise before signing to an art festival

Something that makes every artist happy is to see and hear someone appreciating his or her painting and providing it with the due recognition it should be given. Although every artist signs up for art festivals with that motive in mind, quite often they end up receiving what they don't deserve. So, if you are an artist having positive hopes about future events, read this article to know what you should be considering before saying yes for an exhibition or an art festival!

Compare this event with other competitive events

Do not ever sign up for an art festival without checking its backgrounds. If you know the dates and venue of the art festival you are going to attend, check online sources such as Events and Festivals Blog for events of the same genre that are happening during this period. You may sometimes find one or two other such events, and always compare the pros and cons of each and pick the best. Go for the one which is most likely to make good sales.

Think about the expenses that you'll have to bear

They say artists are artists because they have never prioritized the financial aspects. Yes, this can be true - but that doesn't mean any artist would like to waste money as if it was nothing. Behind your thought of signing to an art festival, you secretly wish to do a good sale. Don't you? People buying your art means they are appreciating your creativity and the skill, and the more arts you sell, the more adored you are as an artist. Before saying yes to any event, think about the costs. Most of the local arts and crafts shows do have a participation fee, and you will have to bear this cost. Secondly, you will also have to spend on your food, drinks, travel, and transport and for the frames. So, compare your costs and have a rough estimate as to at which rate you are going to sell one piece of art and then, how many of them are needed to be sold if you are to cover your costs.

Have a pre-idea about the crowd

Before signing in, talk to the organizers and know more about the event. Know from them whether the event is promoted as a free event because if that's the case, people will not carry enough cash to buy your art as they will just be happy with the free magic shows and the street food stalls available at the event. If the event has beer-testing spots, wine-tasting spots, people will then come just to get those privileges and they will never be in the mindset to adore an abstract painting and spend their money to on a piece of art. If you don't think that your right audience will be there at an event, never take a risk, you can always try another event coming up!

Consider the possible weather conditions too

Before you say yes to an event, know about the dates on which it's going to be there, and check the weather forecast. This is an important thing, because you take part in an event after paying a considerable amount of money as the participation fee, and in addition to that, there are several other (both monetary and non-monetary) commitments that you do. But what if the event is on a rainy day and nobody turns up? Who will buy your paintings? Who will recover your costs for you? This is why you should be extra conscious of the events. Yes, it can be the organizers' job to schedule their event on a great day, but you should be vigilant about it too.
