How to Prepare for a Beach Trip

When in need of an escape from the dullness of everyday life, the beach is the haven most dream of. If you find your self in a tight spot financially for an absolute getaway, then the next best thing is to head over to a beach close by. Here's how to plan for a day at the beach.

A change of clothes

Of course, you won't be needing a suitcase in this instance, but a tote bag or a wet bag (waterproof bag) would do. First of all, make sure the clothes you are packing are light and easy to carry and put on after frolicking on the beach. Why is a change of clothes important? Well, there is the possibility that you might want to go somewhere else after your day at the beach, in this case, you'll have fresh clothing and don't have to worry about being sopping wet and full of sand when you leave the waves behind. Not so sure about footwear? That's easy! Flip flops are the best option for the sandy shores, if you plan on walking towards the water, then pack a pair of water shoes.

Protection from the rays

Just like that tan is all worth the heat, it could also severely damage your skin if you have not taken the necessary precautions. So, remember, don't ever forget sunscreen when planning your day out at the beach. The best sunscreen would be to about 15 SPF and keep in mind that it should protect you from UVA and UVB rays. It's not only the skin on your body, but your lips too tend to get dry after a splash or two in the salty ocean water and hot weather. Therefore, lip balm is also important. Keep reapplying your lip balm when your lips feel dry to avoid cracks. Clothing can also be used to protect you against the harmful rays of the sun. A hat and sunglasses are much-needed to shield your eyes and face from the sun. A cover-up with long sleeves is also a good way to keep your skin away from the heat. If this doesn't sit well with you, you could always take a beach umbrella with you.

Take something to sit on

Unless you don't mind the irritable skin and sand all over yourself, its best to pack in something to sit on. A beach towel would be ideal, but then this should be different from the towel you will be wiping yourself with after playing around in the water. For a little more comfort, a beach chair would be nice. Still, remember to take a towel along so that the chair will not get too heated up. A king-size beach towel is an option as well where you can spread it over the sand and keep your bag and other items too. If you don't have a beach towel, an old blanket would do as long as you are ok with it getting sandy.

First aid

Since you and your family will be engaging in various beach activities, it's always better to be prepared for the unexpected. Thus, packing a first aid kit is very important. You can get a ready made pack from the pharmacy or make your own at home. Usually, a very basic first aid kit would have antibiotic ointment, bandages, pain relief pills, anti-diarrhoea medicine and a thermometer. For further precaution, you could include antihistamines, gauze pads, hydrocortisone packets, antiseptic packets, medical tape, non-latex gloves, roller bandages and small adhesive ones as well.
