How to get to and about Bali?

The islands of Bali are happily afloat on the sea of Java just waiting to be explored. There are ancient temples that will awe the soul and scenery of nature that will give you goosebumps. Not to mention, the number of hotels and resorts that you ought to experience with unique stays to offer cannot be missed! No wonder you’ve considered researching Bali as your next vacation destination perhaps? Here’s how to get there and how to get around.

The Airport

All international flights coming into Bali will land at Ngurah Rai International Airport in Denpasar. It is situated 2.5 km away from Kuta in the southern part of Denpasar. Many of the resorts in Bali are within easy reach from here. if you are travelling from Australia particularly, there are a lot of flights available on different airlines. The fares are usually very cheap, and bookings are easy to make as well.

Once you’ve landed, travelling from the airport to your resort is the next hurdle. The best way is to inquire with your place of accommodation like Hotel Indigo Bali Seminyak Beach if they offer the airport transfer service and book it along with your room. You could also take a taxi from the airport, but remember to agree on a rate before you get in. The easier way to get your taxi and a fair price would be to book a taxi at the taxi counter within the airport premises. Let them know your destination and the fare will be paid directly to the office and not the driver.

 Getting to other islands

Bali is a collection of islands and there are some you can reach by boat as well. But if you need to get to your destination as soon as possible, another transfer flight is the only option. Flights are available mainly to islands that are on the east coast – Gili, Lombok, and NusaLembongan to name a few. The flights take off from Denpasar International Airport and land at Lombok International Airport. If you were wondering about the other two islands, there aren’t any direct flights, therefore, you’ll have to land at Lombok International Airport and most probably charter a boat to take to Gili or Nusa Lembongan.

If you have enough time on your hands, then you can travel to other islands on a motorboat which should take about 5 hours. Boats setting off to islands towards the east like Ubud will begin the journey from Padangbai Harbour. If you plan on staying at the best villas in Seminyak, Kuta or Legian, then make your way to the marina at Serangan island to catch the boat. If you opt for the speed boat, you can get to your destination in half the time. It might be a little more expensive, but snacks and entertainment will be included on the boat as well.

 Getting around Bali

When on an island, what better way to explore than on a bike? Yes, rent out a bike and cycle through the many little towns and in between the lush paddy fields and watch the crops change into different shades of green in the breeze. If that sounds fun, once again, find out from your hotels if they offer bike rentals or recommend any. This is also the cheapest way to get about and explore. \

Hiring a car with a driver is also an option that is available in most resorts, some agents also do offer this service. If this might seem too luxury, well, it's totally worth the money anyway so why not go ahead? Unless you have pre-planned and pre-paid a rate to the company, you will have to negotiate on the price. You will have to pay for the driver’s accommodation and food as well if you’ve hired the car for multiple days.

Tour buses are another way to travel here but remember that this way, your freedom to explore to your heart’s content will be curtailed. Not to mention, a whole lot of time is wasted on the road. There are public buses too that take tourists to some of the best attractions in Bali, then again, they aren’t available often. Some only operate every 2 hours.
