In 1956, an international design competition was held to pick the best design for the project, and his design became the first out of 233 designs submitted. He received ₤5000 for his design.

It's a million-dollar project

Can you even estimate how much it must have cost to build this amazing creation? Initially, they estimated the overall cost to be $7 million. However, by the time construction was over, it had reached a total of $102 million. Also, although the construction was initially expected to be done within 4 years, it took 14 years to finish it all. More than 10,000 workers had to give their countless efforts to make this dream a reality and it was finally opened by Queen Elizabeth II in 1973. Today, it's a UNESCO World Heritage Site visited by millions of people throughout the year.
